Nelson’s Meat and Fish The popular Arcadia market, which is well-known for its fresh seafood, will soon be opening at a new location near North Scottsdale.
Christopher Nelson, founder and owner, will unveil the 1,200-square foot space on Scottsdale Road north from Thunderbird Road in May.
“People have been encouraging us to open another shop for years, and even offering us space. Nelson says that we have been blessed with organic growth and will continue to do so.
Nelson’s will have a similar menu to its Arcadia location in the new Scottsdale digs.
The new Nelson’s location will be the same setup and hours as its original location. It has a walk-up counter, fresh fish and a full bar. Arcadia residents can enjoy a brew at The Wandering Tortoise on Indian School Road and 24th Street. They can then walk over to the fish markets to pick up sashimi and lobster rolls, and then return to the bar. Nelson’s in Scottsdale will partner with TVG Tap Room & Bottle Shop for some tasty bites.
Nelson explains that the restaurant is not a restaurant. However, they do have great features and have increased over time.
Nelson, whom regulars affectionately call “Nellie,” explains that the menu will be nearly identical. It will include all of the comforts Arcadia customers have grown to love, such as a full raw bar, a lobster rolls on Wednesdays, and clam soup and a poke bowl Fridays. All seafood is fresh and seasonal so availability can vary depending on the catch.
“We live in an Amazon society, where people expect everything to be delivered immediately. We don’t even take pre-orders for fish. Nelson says that we are a bit old-fashioned here. “We don’t order seafood by species, we order seafood from all over the world when it’s out of the ocean.”
Christopher Nelson will tell you anything you want to know about fish and then some.

Nelson was inspired by the simpler way of living where chefs get ingredients from the sea every day to create ever-changing menus. He recalls a trip to Italy.
Nelson says, “We aren’t near the ocean here but there was a guy named Bruno, who was a chef for 30 years when I was in Venice at Rialto fish markets.” “He literally is down at that market every day with a pad writing an entire seafood menu, 16 courses.”
While Nelson’s is not near the water, it may offer fresh seafood that’s as close as Phoenicians will get.
